The Versatile Blogger Award (Again!)

A heartfelt thank you to Magini @ Magic of books for nominating me. Such a pleasure. 😀

This is… I think, my third nomination for this award, so I’m keeping it brief this time~

1

Rules

  • Show the award on your blog
  • Thank the person that has nominated you
  • Share 7 different facts about yourself
  • Nominate 15 blogs of your choice YOU ARE ALL NOMINATED ❤
  • Link your nominees and let them know of your nomination

Facts about me

  1. I have a very bad habit of not knowing what to say when someone asks the question, “So tell me about yourself.” Uhh… I dunno. I exist? (…..I think….)
  2. Typically, I like to work on about three different computers/tablets/interfaces at the same time. (All doing different things, of course.) I’m definitely what you would call a “multitasker.” 😉
  3. I’ve had the same car for over ten years. (Going strong! *knock on wood, fingers crossed*) I’ll not get rid of my babe. ❤
  4. I prefer to sleep when it’s cold. I get better sleep that way. When it’s too warm or just plain boiling, I tend to get nightmares.
  5. I HATE socks. …Except when I don’t. Then I love them. xD
  6. I’m terrible at “keeping touch” with people. Like… I don’t even know what that means. Even those I really, REALLY like. I can barely muster a “hullo” once a month. Best case scenario, I see something I think someone might like and tag them in it like saying, “Hey. Heeey. So I thought of you. ❤ ❤ <3”
  7. Plus, I’m utterly hopeless at small-talk, too. There are many an awkward conversation to be had when I’m in the room and people just wanna chitchat. I need solid conversation material (preferably of the nerdy-geeky, gamer, anime/manga/yaoi/comic, or bookish kind) or I’m outta there.

Nominees:

I NOMINATE YOU ALL! You’re all wonderful just for being here. 😉

The Questions:

1. What book genre would you like to check into that you normally never read?

A: Ohh, this is a tough one! Hmm… well I suppose I would like to get back into reading historical fiction? Like… pure historical fiction. XD I don’t generally read solo genres. They’re usually a combination of several different genres in one, y’know? Like Dark Fantasy Romance or Science Fiction Romance Horror, or something. I remember reading some really good straight-up historical fiction when I was waay young. I need to find books like that again and get buried in the re-imagined past.

2. What book character would you like to hang out with if you were having a bad day?

A: ….I probably wouldn’t want to hang out with anyone if I was having a bad day. COME BACK TOMORROW lol XD

But no – trying to be more serious here. UM. I really wouldn’t want to hang out with anyone on a bad day, but I guess I’d pick someone grumpy or mischievous so we can be grumpy together or go and make some trouble somewhere which would undoubtedly cheer me up. Loki would be fun as all hell to hang with. And Morpheus from the Splintered series. And Ushna and Tristan and their pack on their ranch (from Sumeria’s Sons series). Although… if I were to hang with them on their crazy ranch all sorts of hell would break loose and I’d probably be in a worse mood than I started so… maybe not them after all. 8D

3. What classic would you like to read or if you don’t know any which classic author would you like to read?

A: The Art of War by Sun Tzu. I have been meaning to read this for what seems like a BILLION years. One of these days, Imma buy a copy, pull up a chair, and READ.

4. What book do you think young reader should read to bring forth a hunger to devour books?

A: Goodness. Uh… well I’d say a series of some sort. The kind that starts up around the time they first begin reading or is only a few books in and they can quickly catch up on.

For me, that series was Animorphs, which I started reading from book 1 when it first came out in ’96. I would still recommend it even now because it was a truly engaging series that had me constantly looking for the next book (a few months later). They’re short (only around 150-190 pages each) and not only introducing young readers to the genres of sci-fi and fantasy, but also to ANIMALS. What kid doesn’t like animals? Each book focuses on different types and — the original ones, anyway — had this really cool feature at the bottom with flip-art that transformed the narrating character into whichever animal was on the cover. IT WAS AWESOME AND I LOVED IT SO HARD.

I also got me into the interest of sequential art and animation, so BONUS!

tumblr_muujenGTpY1qmjvjqo1_500

5. Which animal do you think would be your daemon (see the golden compass book or movie summary if you have never read the book)

A: Well I think my daemon would need to change genders constantly to keep up with me, but besides that it would probably be Cat, Siberian Tiger, Coyote, Snowy Owl, or the Komodo Dragon. Or it would never settle and switch between any one of those whenever it best suits me. I doubt my daemon would ever settle, honestly so. There we go!

6. For the people who wish to be authors: If you could be apprenticed by your favorite author who would it be and why (which skill could they help you learn)? For book lovers in general: Which of your favorite authors would you love to spend the day with and what would you plan on doing?

A: Ugh, no thanks! It’s not that I think I don’t need the help but… I think many other writers and authors feel the same way. You don’t really want someone else telling you how they think you should write. It’s all fine, well, and good to get some pointers here and there, or to read something and be like, “WOAH! That scene was really, fuckin’ GOOD.” But… no. I already had a similar sort of thing happen to me and it fucked me up for years until I could come back to writing and not hear them in my head telling me, “Oh and remember to do this or that!” or “Don’t do that! You shouldn’t do that that way!” and… ASDFGHJKL:LKJH

200_s (8)

As to who I’d want to hang with for a day? …Poppy Z. Brite of the olden days. And we’d be discussing and possibly testing out various ways to kill and/or mutilate our characters in the most horrific and disturbing ways possible.

And maybe also who we think should fuck their corpses.

Because… well… Exquisite Corpse, folks.

7. What book do you like, but seems to get not the best reviews either in the blogging world or good reads?

A: Hmm, I can’t think of one off the top of my head, but I know some friends are all iffy about The Song of Achilles or didn’t really like it as much as THEY SHOULD HAVE—*cough cough* I mean, than I did. 8D Luckily goodreads, amazon, and elsewhere in the universe thinks highly of it. XD

8. Which book has inspired you to go or want to go to a different place/ or country and why?

A: Good Omens made me want to go to England and have dinner or tea at the Ritz, because WHY THE HELL NOT? Also to look for Aziraphale’s bookshop AKA his centuries old personal library.

And New Orleans, because of Lost Souls. Truthfully? I always wanted to go during Mardi Gras and check out the local… EHEM… establishments. *coughcough*

9. Who is your celebrity crush?

A: Don’t actually have one. I mean, there are some people I love seeing in films, tv shows, and the like, but there’s no one I’m crazy for. Sorrynotsorry 😛

10. Book genre you crave lately?

A: WELL. I’ve been reading a lot of manhua recently and Chinese bl novels. (Why? IDUNNO. DUN ASK.) And good speculative science fiction with emphasis on AGS and gender norms of the “what if” spectrum. But besides that? Hmm, well… it’s not so much a GENRE as it is TOPIC. I’ve been hunting around books about fairies and elves, be they fiction or otherwise. DON’T ASK. PLEASE. XD

11. What is your tip to beat a reading slump?

A: Reading slump? What’s that? XD *no seriously, had to go Google it* …..this… has NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. ASDFGHJKLKJHGFDSASDFGH I think it’s probably because I never stay on one thing for very long, or I read a certain something – genre, romantic pairing, author, topic, whathaveyou – until I’m satisfied (for now) and then go to something else that catches my attention.

I’m also VERY picky when it comes to books. I don’t just go along with what everyone else is reading, even if EVENTUALLY I end up reading it and liking it or not. I read what I read when I feel like it whenever that is. I won’t be pressured into reading something just because someone else wants me too. Doesn’t matter HOW awesome it is.

I generally find books read better when you’re in the right frame of mind for what you’re reading.

So… yeah… I guess that’s my advice! Try different things to read! Don’t just stick to one thing! Try out different genres, read fanfiction, REREAD YOUR FAVOURITE BOOKS! (this one’s real important! – it’ll help you remember what you love about reading or simply about that book, series, or author), and just…. don’t force yourself to read just because you think that’s what you should be doing. Don’t let yourself fall into complacent illiteracy, mind you! But… read what you WANT to read, when it feels right to do it. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. 🙂

  3. What was the last series you read and enjoyed? Talk a little about what made it so enjoyable.
  4. What’s one genre you just can’t stand? What about it makes you hate it so?

Here is how it works:

  1. Write seven facts about yourself
  2. Nominate fifteen others to do the tag
  3. Let them know you tagged them!

7 Random Facts About Me

  1. I have a jewelry fetish. Like… I literally see some gorgeous piece of jewelry and stop like a deer in headlights and… just… STARE.
  2. Absolutely love this genre called microhistory. I honestly didn’t know what it was until recently, when it became alarmingly obvious that I have and still do read quite a bit of it.
  3. Granola bars. Granola bars are GOOD. (Especially Nature’s Valley Honey and Oats!)
  4. When I was younger, I was a big photo geek. I had a Polaroid (and eventually a Nikon) that I took with me EVERYWHERE. Now, I mostly only get shots on my phone, which is why I desperately need one that take phenomenal shots. Any recommendations, anyone? Anyone???
  5. I hate shopping. But I like things. This presents itself with problems, as I’m sure you can imagine.
  6. Within the last year or so, I’ve really gotten into reading ebooks more and more. This might have something to do with money constraints and the cheap price of ebooks as opposed to paperback but… I just really surprised myself! I never thought I would enjoy reading books on my kindle as much as I do now.
  7. My mates and I have our own calendar that we follow, which has its own set of holidays, festivals, and events that we annually get-together and celebrate. Some of them correlate to regular calendar dates, like our upcoming Aidakas on the 15th which is basically our version of a non-exclusive Valentines for all.

“Sibterhood” of the World Bloggers Award

sibterhood2

edited award badge (c) Reckless Indulgence

I was nominated by my friend Anastasia over at her blog, ReadAndSurvive! Thank you so very much for the award. 🙂 What an honor~~

rdj_thanks gorbun_8

Now, as you can see the original award was for entry into a Sisterhood.

Buuuuuuut–! Since I don’t identify as female 😀 – I’m more of a Mx. than a Ms. – I’ve changed the award to a more appropriate titling of “Sibterhood of the World Bloggers Award,” so as to include every gender where we might all be sibs together! :3

As such, I’m also not sticking to femaleonly nominees. REJOICE!

The Rules

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you, linking back to their site
  • Put the award logo on your blog
  • Answer the ten questions they’ve sent you
  • Make up ten new questions for your nominees to answer
  • Nominate ten people

My answers to Anastasia’s questions:

1. If you were a character in a book, what kind of a book would it be? Who are you? How would the book end?

Ohh… a complex question. Well, let’s see. The short answer is, I would be the enigma, the unknown; either finding myself in the role of anti-hero, villain, or rogue who is constantly ridiculed, outcast, or underestimated in a speculative fiction/dark fantasy book.

Whether I was protag or antagonist however, would depend solely on who’s telling the story. If it were told by myself or others like me, then I…we would be the protagonists – most assuredly, (because we would get to tell our side of the story, and not have it told for us by those would do not understand). We would still be rogues and cutthroats and honestly not give a fuck about what others thought of us or our actions, but it would be OUR story you would hear and not that of those who fight to oppress us, fear us, or fight to destroy us. Obviously, on that note, if anyone else (outside of us) told the story, we would undoubtedly be portrayed as the antagonists and villains, or at the very least the subject of much debate and controversy. The story would definitely take on a much different light depending on whose side is telling the tale.

One thing’s for certain: we would end up on top at the end. Either by getting away or actually winning the fight… we would survive and press on to another day. Whether anyone else likes it or not will once again depend on the narrator’s sway for, or against us.

2. Do you only read books or do you also read comics, manga, magazines, newspapers? Which ones?

I consider comics and manga to be books as well, thank you very much! XD

So obviously, yes, I read manga (and manhua and manhwa…), comics, webcomics, and magazines (although with mags, not so much recently…). If you want to know which ones I read, you can head on over to the listings for manga and for webcomics (that are constantly and possibly forever under construction) for an incomplete, work-in-progress record of which manga/comics/mags I read. There is no way I could list them all here. 8D

3. What was most memorable experience for you in 2014?

Memorable?

. . .

I would say… discovering NetGalley. XD Because… ya’know… there was a LOT of memorable things last year. Most of them NOT GOOD. So I’m gonna go with NetGalley, because that will always be a bright spot in my life. :3

4. What are your hobbies?

  • Listening to music.
  • Reading.
  • Acquiring books (in any form, shape, or otherwise. Bonus points for any books I can get for cheap or free!)
  • Creating and destroying worlds and characters in my head, and then writing them down. Sometimes.
  • Writing, in general.
  • Discovering new things (this is a pretty broad hobby because… well… it’s not subject to one thing only. Music, books, authors, facts, random facts, seemingly useless facts, theories, scientific discoveries, art, life hacks, programs and apps that help and assist productivity or entertainment, different cultures/peoples/customs, travel, astronomy… you name it, I probably find some portion of it interesting. I just like learning and finding new stuff, new information, the known and the unknown. It is a great passion of mine to simply learn and acquire more knowledge. I’m something of an epistemophile, although I’ve been told I may be more of philosophile – which I’m also quite fine with, btw.)
  • Exploring new places (this doesn’t solely mean “to travel” either…).
  • Creature concepts & world-building: both on paper in the written form, and in pencil & photoshop
  • Watching other people play video games and commenting/making fun of everything that happens while loving every horrid minute of it.

5. What’s your favorite animal (mythological creatures are absolutely counted in)? Why?

Ugh. I hate these “favourite” questions since I always have too many. XD

UM. Okay. So for regular animals: Cats, Foxes, Owls, Bats, Crocodiles, Komodo Dragons, Sharks, Goats, Horses, Bearded Vultures, Hummingbirds… SO.MANY.OTHERS!!

As for mythological creatures… ughhhdhksajgdlg… there’s too maannyyyy!! @__@ Kitsune, Dragons, Hellhounds, Cerberus, Centaurs, Unicorns, Pegasus, Sphinx, Kelpie, Bakeneko, Nekomata, Mermaids… must I go on??

Now for the “why”… well… there’s either some aspect of their nature, personality, appearance, or innate purpose that I love. However I am, in no way, going to list those reasons now. I’d be here all week if I did.

6. What country are you from?

Born in the U.S. of A.

7. What do you want to do in 2015?

  1. Get a new job.
  2. Write a book (or two)
  3. Participate in several book challenges (Check my progress here)
  4. READ TONS OF BOOKS
  5. Get some of my unpublished works published
  6. Do at least one completely new thing
  7. Make a difference.

8. Your book boyfriends? Crushes? Why them?

Hmm, never really had book “boyfriends” or “girlfriends” or even crushes on any character. There are some I find incredibly delicious or perfect together, but… not with me. XD I did and do have favorite characters though, who I absolutely adore or simply root for no matter the situation (even if they seem unworthy of such devotion).

Some examples include: Arya, Tyrion, Jaime, Brienne, Daenerys, Varys (A Song of Ice and Fire series); Loki (from… mythology, Marvel, and I Bring The Fire series); Lestat de Lioncourt (The Vampire Chronicles); Tobias and Ax (Animorphs); Dai, Jaehee, Naru (Let Dai); Achilles, Patroclus (from mythology & The Song of Achilles); Cal, Lianvis, Seel (Wraeththu); Edmond Dantès (Count of Monte Cristo/Gankutsuou); and a bijillion others. XD

9. Do you have some songs you listen to when you read? What about songs that match that book?

Never listen to music while I read; only when I write (and even then… Sometimes I need utter silence). I do make FSTs and fanmixes pretty often, though. Always after the fact. 🙂

10. Who’s your favorite villain?

Again with these “favourite” questions!! DDDx *REFUSES TO ANSWER BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY I CAN ANSWER THIS PROPERLY*

My questions for you!

  1. Since I hate “favourite” questions, what genre or genres do you enjoy reading most? What draws you to those books?
  2. Do you normally pick up and read a title at random if it interests you, or does the book have to come with high recommendations, lots of reviews and high ratings, and/or award nominations/wins?
  3. Have entered any Book or Reading Challenges for 2015? If so, which ones?
  4. What movie and/or book are you most excited to see/read?
  5. Do you collect a certain kind(s) of book? If so, which ones?
  6. Give a guestimate. How many books do you think you own? (Printed books & E-Books included!)
  7. As readers, we all have TBR lists. How long is yours and do you think you will be able to whittle it down this year?
  8. How do you usually acquire the books you read: Bookstores, Online (Amazon, Book Depository, B&N, AbeBooks, etc.), Indie Marketplaces, Libraries, Used Bookstores, $1-5 Bins, Gifts from family and friends?
  9. Do you have an unusual reading habit? What is it and why do you do it?
  10. If the zombie apocalypse happened RIGHT NOW, which fictional book character would you want with you? Why, and would you both survive???

And finally… my nominees~

  1. Lola @ Hit Or Miss Books
  2. FriendlyBookWorm
  3. Cathy @ 746 Books
  4. Serith & Kaelin @ FabulousFictions (This counts as two!)
  5. Issac @ Ekostories
  6. Yvo @ It’s All About Books
  7. Luna @ Luna’s Little Library
  8. Stephanie @ Stephanie’s Book Reviews
  9. Eva @ The Paperback Princess

One Lovely Blog Award Nomination

olb-award

The Rules:

  • You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
  • You must list the rules and display the award.
  • You must add 7 facts about yourself.
  • You must nominate 5-15 other bloggers and comment on one of their posts to let them know they’ve been nominated.
  • You must display the award logo and follow the blogger who nominated you.

How exciting! 🙂 I’ve been nominated for the One Lovely Blog Award by the gracious friendlybookworm! Thank you, m’dear! :3

giphy (1)

I am always quite surprised when anyone takes notice of anything I do. XD I’m not particularly used to it, so these nominations are always a wonderful and pleasant reminder that I’m apparently doing something right.

Seven random facts about me:

  1. Will wear out clothes until they are rags. And even then. (Hey! That doesn’t mean I’m wearing them OUTSIDE. XD )
  2. Has written ten million books, but might never publish them. (Okay… so maybe not ten MILLION. But certainly over 10. Waaaay over ten.)
  3. Obsessed with Twinning’s chai tea. French vanilla flavored if at all possible. 8D It’s some gooood stuff.
  4. I used to keep journals to just write stuff down… But now I need loose computer paper. No lines. No confinement. And I write in all sorts of random directions, back and front. My notes are now all like a madman’s. XD
  5. Has never been to Canada, but wants to. Very, very badly.
  6. Winter is my favourite season, followed closely by the lovely Autumn. Summer is my least favorite, which makes Spring that in-between middle grounds. The only reason it even gets that spot is because Spring around here has the tendency to literally become nonexistent as Winter just abruptly changes into Summer. So – on that note – Spring gets to be my third “favourite” because it is basically (to me anyway) an extended Winter session. (Except when it becomes an early Summer instead and then I just hate all that it is and ever will be. 😡 )
  7. Owns over 2000 printed copies of books. Easily. (Let’s not even get me started on the ebooks and scanned copies I have on my Kindle, harddrives, and computers.)

As for my nominations, I’m going to be brief this time:

  1. Read & Survive
  2. Ekostories
  3. Hit Or Miss Books
  4. 746 Books
  5. By A College Student

I have been SO busy lately, I’ve barely had time to check for comments and such, so this was truly a surprise for me (a VERY happy one though)! To see your comment on my blog with this nomination made me all excited~~ I can’t believe it!! I’ve seen other blogs proudly displaying this award, and always thought, “Yeah. They definitely deserve that award. Go them!!” But I never thought it would happen to me! 😮 😮 😮 I can’t begin to express how much this means to me! Thank you, thank you, thank you~

Now I’d like to take a moment to thank all my followers, readers, and friends for putting up with my unorganized and haphazard posting schedule and crazy book reviews. You guys are the best, and I hope to keep entertaining you with all sorts of book finds, quotes, and whatnot! 😉

Seven Random Facts About Me:

  1. Loves the night and often goes on long night drives (when there’s gas in the car, that is)
  2. Hates zoos, clowns, spiders, most people
  3. Has an affinity for cats, really gorgeous jewelry, and book sales
  4. Frequently dances and orchestrates concerts in my head (They’re spectacular)
  5. Known for being “the sensible one” and “always busy,” but also as quite “laid-back” and “easy-going”
  6. Genuinely enjoys being alone (I can get shit done that way)
  7. Curses moderately and when fucking appropriate

Nominees: Every single person nominated here most certainly deserves this award, and more! I have enjoyed their blogs, found inspiration and rigor from them, shared laughs and had serious wtf moments, and honestly could not see my days without. Here are the nominees:

300 Stories: One man’s one-year goal to write 300 stories in 300 words (or less). You cannot begin to understand how overjoyed I was to find this blog. I used to write drabbles like this all the time, but because of university and other crazy life situations, I stopped. But seeing this man’s creative, funny, and outright random stories brought to mind my own whimsical tales and revved up my own passion to write again. So thank you, Dieter Rogiers. You totally rock and everyone needs to follow you.

HarshRealityThis guy’s funny. And has some good points. Granted, we can’t agree on everything… but then… that would make it quite boring now wouldn’t it? His humor is so casual and free-flowing that it reminds me that not everything has to be so serious all the time. (Not to say I’d ever forget that.) If you’d like to read some quick, opinionated chats on random opinionated topics from a guy with a wicked sense of humor… this is the blog to follow!

Lynette Noni: I enjoy her posts. A LOT. Always so creative and her topics are engaging, current, and relatable. As an aspiring author, I think she’s gonna make it! (And from what I’ve read recently, it seems that dream is already coming true! :D)

Must Be This Tall To Ride: Actually, this blog is a more recent discovery of mine. Still, I’ve enjoyed reading about this guy’s life. It’s sort of… tragic. (Okay, not tragic, per se. But I do feel like patting you on the back for those hard times, bro.) There’s something about it that’s inspiring though… considering that he’s been through so much and still trying to find a way to make good come from it. A lesson to us all, eh?

Yet Another Crime Fiction Blog: This blog had one heck of a layout design when I first began following it, which – strangely enough – is what inspired me to want to have a snazzy blog theme and well-organized set-up of my own. I don’t know if I’ve quite succeeded though, but this was one of the blogs that started it! And although I’m not much of a mystery/crime/suspense reader, the reviews for this blog are phenomenal! Makes me actually want to pick up a mystery or crime novel. (Which is saying something!) If you’re a mystery reader and fan, I highly recommend this blog to add to your list!

The American Cocktail: Cocktails, my friend. NEED I SAY MORE?!

Fabulous Fictions: These incredible people made a blog 100% dedicated to books with strong QUILTBAG (Queer/Questioning, Undecided, Intersex, Lesbian, Trans, Bi, Asexual/Allied, Gay/Genderqueer) themes, and ACTUALLY include books from ALL the letters (including the Q’s and the I’s and the T’s and the A’s – which is HUGE!)

Mighty Red Pen: As a fellow editor, all I have to say is, “Well done. You talk about the dirty work that no one else wants to even THINK about. The editing. The red penning. You make it fun, and highly enjoyable. It is long overdue. THANK YOU.”

a historian’s craft: Utterly stunning blog on a wide range of book, manuscript, and historical themes. Absolutely worth a look if you want to learn about something or somewhere you’ve never known of before. Especially if it’s book related.

Chasing Light: I fell in love with the photography of this lovely lady. If she stopped posting her gorgeous pictures I might just keel over (Well… hopefully not. But I’ll certainly lose all hope in humanity again, so there’s that.)

Feed Limmy: I love finding new music, and this blog certainly provides. Most of the songs, artists, and so forth featured on here are often new artists that I haven’t had the chance to find out about, or are so obscure that even I haven’t heard much of them. (Which, to me, is a good thing. Discoveries, my friends, is key to living. Never stop learning!) I don’t always love what pops up on their pages, but I know I’ll be in for a surprise each time I visit. 🙂

Write Me A Book, John!: Funny, witty blog with a definite voice, presence, and place in my reader’s feed. I am constantly intrigued by what John’s posts.

By A College Student: Confession – I have a weakness and love for random lists and things (Hey hey! That’s random fact #8! And hey’s #9: I frequently engage in such lists myself… which might be why I love this blog so…) Her random lists make me smile or nod my head in agreement (or shake it furiously in UTTER DISAGREEMENT because NO NO NO NOOOO what is happening there?!) If you like reading or participating in lists of all sorts, go here. You will not be disappointed.

Alright. So I maaaay have gone over the “10” nominations option. but I feel all of these blogs deserve this award, so THERE! 😛

To any and all of you who may have already been nominated by someone else, you certainly do not have to do this all over again (IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO). But I would still love to hear back from you regardless. Congratulations to all the nominees! I cannot wait to hear back from all of you. 😉
