[Reckless Beat & SOTD] Kerli’s Feral Hearts

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

Welcome back to another episode of Reckless Beats~ I had a rather interesting “musical” week about two weeks ago, where me and a mate of mine went through our old collection of artists and CDs, albums, and the like and just… reminisced.

Then, because we’re freaks like that, we went and caught up on some of these old favourite bands and artists and found out what some of them are doing now, if they’re still bands or making music anymore, what music we’ve been missing out on — y’know. The works.

One artist I found myself back into again is Kerli (full name: Kerli Kõiv). I really loved her music and her sound from her very first hits like Love Is Dead and Walking On Air. Her first album Love Is Dead is – hands down – my favourite album of hers with other much beloved tracks such as Creepshow, Bulletproof, Up Up Up, Strange Boy, Butterfly Cry, Hurt Me, Fragile, and Beautiful Day (btw that’s basically the whole album there asdfghjkl; i didn’t even realize 8D;;; )

Learning that she’s still making music was probably the best part of my week.

So in light of that, I’ve decided to share with you a couple songs I’m particularly jamming out to. (On repeat, like the music freak I am~~)

First up is: Build The Cities by Karma Fields (feat. Kerli)

Second up: Build The Cities (Empire of Sound) by Tristam, Karma Fields, and Kerli

Lastly: Feral Hearts by Kerli

LYRICS FOR FERAL HEARTS:

The whole world trying, to tame the spark
But we’ve got fire, burning bright, hidden
Catch the shimmer of showering stars
The sky gets dimmer, and your light shows

You are the vision I’m looking for (looking for)
Make me remember all I forgot
Watch me become just an animal
Naked to nothing more than who we are

Feral hearts, in the night
Loving like we’ve been kept captive
Free to light
Feral hearts, come alive
Loving like we’ve been kept captive
Free to…
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Feral, feral, feral hearts
Feral, feral, feral hearts
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Feral, feral, feral hearts
Feral, feral, feral hearts

The whole world trying to blind the way home
But we’ve got shelter, deep inside, secret
Tame the whispers of winds as they blow
Feel my shivers in your arms stop

You are the vision I’m looking for (looking for)
Make me remember all I forgot
Watch me become just an animal
Naked to nothing more than who we are

Feral hearts, in the night
Loving like we’ve been kept captive
Free to light
Feral hearts, come alive
Loving like we’ve been kept captive
Free to…
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Feral, feral, feral hearts
Feral, feral, feral hearts
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Oh-oh-oh-oh
Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah
Feral, feral, feral hearts
Feral, feral, feral hearts

[Reckless Beat & SOTD] Throwback To The Past – Songs Former Emo Kids Will Always Remember

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

Hey guys! Happy Monday!

477551

*insert long groan*

Sorry I’ve been so MIA lately, but when all is said and done, I’ll reveal what’s literally taking over my life so much recently. Got A LOT of good things going on right now, and it’s hectic, but so worthwhile. Honestly, I can’t wait to let you all in on the news. 🙂

But back to today’s LONG OVERDUE music post!

A couple weeks ago I saw this video floating around on Facebook that literally had me both annoyed and completely in the zone when I heard it.

Whoever made it named it – and I quote – “Songs FORMER Emo Kids Will Always Remember” and I thought, “What fuckery is this? What do you mean ‘FORMER emo kids’??? What do you mean ’emo’ kids at all?! Are you really trying to tell me that just regular kids didn’t listen to and know this music?! Are you kidding me right now?”

So I’m both annoyed and belting out the lyrics to every song because I know AND STILL LISTEN TO all of these songs whenever the mood gets me.

What about you? If you grew up in the 80’s – 90’s- 00’s you should know these songs, or at least heard them before even if you didn’t like ’em or know ’em.

So what do you think? LEAVE YOUR COMMENTS.

Do you consider this music to be “emo”? Did you ever or do you still listen to any of these songs? Do you remember the lyrics? Have any fond memories of doing stupid shit to them or just wailing them in the car going to or coming home from school?

HOW MANY OF YOU CAN NAME THEM ALL?

LET ME HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS!

I’m super curious. 😉

[Reckless Beat & SOTD] Death Cab For Cutie – Black Sun

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

I started re-reading/finished reading The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal again, after literally forgetting about it until now. And wouldn’t you know… the minute all the stellar song choices started “playing” all throughout the pages, I ended up singing some Death Cab For Cutie tunes.

Although this one is a little after the time, I think this one wouldn’t worked well for the book had it been out at the time.

Any current or former readers of TJ and Amal? What do you think about the song choice? Yay or nay?

Give it a listen and tell me what you think:

I give you Death Cab For Cutie‘s Black Sun!

LYRICS:

There is whisky in the water
And there is death upon the vine
There is fear in the eyes of your father
And there is “Yours” and there is “Mine”
There is a desert veiled in pavement
And there’s a city of seven hills
And all our debris flows to the ocean
To meet again, I hope it will

How could something so fair
Be so cruel
When this black sun revolved
Around you!

There is an answer in a question
And there is hope within despair
And there is beauty in a failure,
And there are depths beyond compare
There is a role of a lifetime
And there’s a song yet to be sung
And there’s a dumpster in the driveway
Of all the plans that came undone

How could something so fair
Be so cruel
When this black sun revolved
Around you!
How could something so fair
Be so cruel
When this black sun revolved
Around you!

There is whisky in the water
And there is death upon the vine
And there is grace within forgiveness
But it’s so hard for me to find

How could something so fair
Be so cruel
When this black sun revolved
Around you!
How could something so fair
Be so cruel
When this black sun revolved
Around you!

LYRICS:

Candy, she’s sweet like candy in my veins
Baby, I’m dying for another taste

And every night my mind is running around her
Thunder’s getting louder and louder

Baby, you’re like lightning in a bottle
I can’t let you go now that I got it
And all I need is to be struck by your electric love
Baby, your electric love
Electric love

Drown me
You make my heart beat like the rain
Surround me
Hold me deep beneath your waves

And every night my mind is running around her
Thunder’s getting louder and louder and louder

Baby, you’re like lightning in a bottle
I can’t let you go now that I got it
And all I need is to be struck by your electric love
Baby, your electric love
Electric love

Rushing through me
Feel your energy rushing through me
Feel your energy rushing through me

Baby, you’re like lightning in a bottle
I can’t let you go now that I got it
And all I need is to be struck by your electric love
Baby, your electric love
Baby, you’re electric

LYRICS:

Brainstorm, take me away from the norm’
I’ve got to tell you something
This phenomenon, I had to put it in a song
And it goes like

Whoa amber is the color of your energy
Whoa shades of gold display naturally

You want to know what brings me here
You glide through my head, blind to fear
And I know I

Whoa amber is the color of your energy
Whoa shades of gold display naturally

Whoa amber is the color of your energy
Whoa shades of gold display naturally

You live too far away
Your voice rings like a bell anyway
Don’t give up your independence
Unless it feels alright
Nothing good comes easily
Sometimes you’ve got to fight

Whoa amber is the color of your energy
Whoa shades of gold display naturally

Lost a thousand ships in my heart so easy
Still it’s fine from afar
And you know that

Whoa
Brainstorm
Take me away from the norm’
Whoa
I’ve got to tell you something

[Reckless Beat & SOTD] TobyMac – Steal My Show

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

So here’s something you probably did not know about me: I really, really love contemporary Christian music.

Not all of it – granted… But the majority of it is pretty sensational. Even if you are not a believer, music is a powerful thing that can reach across every boundary, every hurtle. As I’m sure you all know, I’m agnostic and not one to get behind organized religion, but I am a spiritual person and I *do* believe.

After the shitastical week I had last week, I’m even more assured that in your most trying moments you have to hold on. Whatever your religion, whatever your belief. You MUST keep your faith, call out to your Savior/Allah/Buddha/Yahweh/Kami/Great Spirit/Higher Being/what-have-you and believe that in the end all will be well. (Especially when everything looks like it’s falling apart around you.)

I have a ton of them, but one of my favourite Christian artists (who I didn’t even know was one, at the time) is TobyMac. The very first song I ever heard by him was Phenomenon — which, lemme tell you, WAS, IS, and ALWAYS WILL BE PHENOMENAL. ❤ It’s been my song of the year (many years over), my go-to, feel good, everything’s alright song that I loved, loved, loved to the very bottom of my heart.

Quite some time after learning about Phenomenon, I idiotically found out that TobyMac was part of another Christian group that I long since ADORED… the one and only DC Talk.

(You can imagine my surprise at finding out this news.)

As such, since learning of this, I’ve been an avid follower of all things TobyMac, including his tour which is going on right now (ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY LFNSFAKDLNAF COME TO THE EAST COAST FOR GOODNESS SAKE!!!!! LFNAKLSna) and all his newest hit songs.

For today, I can’t exactly narrow down my favourites, but I’ll just go with this one. Hope you enjoy~~

I give you TobyMac‘s song Steal My Show!

LYRICS:

Another cold night
Another late flight
It’s almost show time, and Diverse City’s waitin’ on me
We got a packed house, the crowd is callin’ out
They want the beat to drop, but what we really need is You

[Chorus:]
If You wanna steal my show, I’ll sit back and watch You go
If You got somethin’ to say, go on and take it away
Need You to steal my show, can’t wait to watch You go
So take it away

So now the crowd is hype, that you showed up tonight
Anticipatin’, cravin’ somethin’ more than smoke and lights
So I’ll step out the way, I’ll give You center stage
Alright
Spotlight
Give ’em what they came for …

[Chorus]

When You arrive, we come to life
Our hearts collide, they’re beating in the same time
You’re comin’ through, all eyes on You
Our hearts collide, they’re beating in the same time, beating in the same time

No matter who we are, no matter what we do
Every day we can choose to say …

[Chorus]

My life
My plans
My heart
It’s all Yours, God
Take it away
My dreams
My fears
My family
My career
Take it away
Take it away
It’s all Yours, God
Take it away
Take it away
It’s You I wanna live for

[Reckless Beat & SOTD] The Byrds – Turn! Turn! Turn!

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

Happy Leap Day everybody!

Don’t know about you, but this leap to year has already been one hell of a rollercoaster ride for me. I hope this nonesense ceases to continue because I’ve had just about enough. @___@ It can’t rain all the time and all that, right? Righ??

I nearly forgot it was today. The 29th day.

Yknow, I had someone say to me around the beginning of the year that they were dreading this year. When I asked them why, they said it was because it was a leap year and leap years never turned out good for them.

I was surprised. It was a funny thing that I had never even considered it myself. I… actually have NO idea if my bad years (because I DO get them) were leap years or not, and… To be quite honest, although I’m curious, I also don’t want to know. AT ALL. Let the year go by first and then… maybe, am I right?

3a3b67ddd3c9b71f1554f313aa2a0884

After all, life just keeps going and we’re just on the wheel… forever turning.

So with that in mind, I figured this song would be a great tribute to the good and the bad and all the inbetweens of this year already.

I give you The Byrds’ most imfamous song, Turn! Turn! Turn!

LYRICS:

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to be born, a time to die
A time to plant, a time to reap
A time to kill, a time to heal
A time to laugh, a time to weep

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to build up, a time to break down
A time to dance, a time to mourn
A time to cast away stones
A time to gather stones together

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time of love, a time of hate
A time of war, a time of peace
A time you may embrace
A time to refrain from embracing

To everything – turn, turn, turn
There is a season – turn, turn, turn
And a time to every purpose under heaven

A time to gain, a time to lose
A time to rend, a time to sew
A time for love, a time for hate
A time for peace, I swear it’s not too late!

[Reckless Beats & SOTD] Collabs are taking over today!

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

So today I figured I’d share some of my most recent go-to workout music.

Figured why not, right?

(I legit have no excuse for this. And no defining explanation as to why I want/need to share this today. XD)

It’s all crazy upbeat to keep me moving, and catchy as all hell so I can keep up with the moves of any new workout or dance routine that I’ve come up with.

Among the line-up is some Major Lazer, Zedd, and David Guetta. DJ’s who are rockin’ it and takin’ over the planet~ Lots of collabs overall, actually. But whatevs.

After all, music is always better when you can jam together. ❤

Do you have any work-out songs or if you dance, what style and beat do you prefer to move to?

Either way, give it a listen and tell me what you think!

I give you Beautiful Now by Zedd & Jon Bellion

Addicted To A Memory by Zedd & Behari

Light It Up by Major Lazer, Nyla & Fuse Odg

All My Love by Major Lazer, Arianna Grande & Machel Montano

Bang My Head by David Guetta, Sia & Fetty Wrap

A LIGHT THAT NEVER COMES by Linkin Park & Steve Aoki

Dessert by Dawin (TriciaMiranda CHOREOGRAPHY VER.)

And last, but not least…

Clean by Big Data (ft. Jamie Lidell)

Cleaning Without SOCA VS Cleaning With SOCA

So this has absolutely nothing to do with books or reading or writing or… well.. ANYTHING. But I will say this much… the man’s got the right idea. Ain’t no way I can clean without something going to keep me movin’~

I feel you, my man. I feel you.

[Reckless Beat & SOTD] Happy New Year!

Well, well, well! Time to say “Goodbye!” to the old and “Hello!” to the new~

Here’s to my “second” New Year’s celebration, and to kick things off and welcome in the Year of the Monkey, I’ve got some MONKEY MAJIK for us! XD

Never heard of them? Well, that’s a shame. Because they’re AWESOME. And Japanese. AND Canadian. But AWESOME is the key word here.

See for yourself: Today’s reckless beats are two of my favourite Monkey Majik songs. The first is called Sunshine, and the second is called Headlight.

.

Annnnd special bonus: Monkey Majik Yoshida Brothers‘s CHANGE!

Happy New Year, everybody! May this year truly be better than the last.

Happy Chinese New Year 2016 Greeting Card.
