I hate hiatuses… 8D

Hi peeps. How are you doing? Is life treating you well? Do you want to cry? Do you want to laugh? Do you want to scream?

(Honestly, do you. I’m not judging. I’m pretty much at my wits end too, so yeah. I’m HERE WITH YOU IN SPIRIT 🖤 🖤 🖤 )

So, really short and uninspired post, but basically it’s to let you guys know I’m going to try posting SOMETHING today. Maybe in a couple hours.

Since today’s Monday and that means Reckless Beats, you’ll definitely have some new music to jam out to very soon. I promise. xD

Not sure when I’ll get back to posting some book reviews and bookish things, but I’ll at least TRY to keep this blog going until things calm down on my end.

Until then, my lovelies. Stay strong! Keep calm and read on! 💛

Update About Impending Hiatus & Comic Con!

As many of you may know, NYCC (New York Comic Con) is just around the corner, and I’m basically spending this week getting ready to head out on my yearly adventure. 🤩 With that being said, I’m not gonna be able to post much until after NYCC is over (so, I’m looking at maybe next Monday-ish? or unless I actually have a free moment to myself over this exciting weekend),

I also haven’t read anything new recently either, so that’s another reason why this hiatus is forthcoming. /fail oTL There’s also a whole lotta extra chaos around me in the home life too, which has things quite precariously hanging by a thread. (No, I won’t go into that, but just know I’m managing as best I can with everything.)

Honestly I wasn’t sure I’d be able to go this year. Money’s been tight and the home front has been crazy for awhile, but I decided “Fuck it! This is LITERALLY the ONE THING I look forward to each year. I’m going. I’m having fun. I’m enjoying myself and I’m coming back with TONS of material and free stuff to make the post-NYCC blues more bearable and to share with you guys.”

That’s just been the mindset and it’s not going anywhere. It’s just not.

Life might be trying to screw me over left and right, but I’m NOT letting it take away my joy. Fuck that shit in every language. 😤

But anyway, what I think I WILL do because it’s simple and doesn’t take much time is share with you guys my daily music choices, if y’all are interested in that stuff, and maybe who I’m hoping to meet, interview, or come across over my 4-Day extravaganza!

More on that tomorrow, probably… or later tonight. We’ll see.

In the meantime, comment below if anyone else is going to NYCC?! I’m not usually one to have meetups or anything (I like being a ghost 🤣) but I’d actually be pretty curious to meet some of you IRL.

My Self-Imposed 2019 Reading Challenge

Hullo everyone! How have you all been?

As you can see from the title, today’s topic is about what “challenges” I’ve been working on this year.

Normally, I’d enter all sorts of reading challenges to keep me busy and also motivate me to read all sorts of genres or find interesting music selections to suit the books I read.

This year, however, I didn’t do that.

Well, Well, Well… Look Who’s Baaaaack!

Hello out there!!! Hello out there!! ….out there! ….out there! …there! …there!

I know, I know… it’s been awhile. I don’t even know what to say and I certainly won’t ask for forgiveness; I’ll just grovel at your feet until you’re done being mad at me. oTL

How have you all been?! It’s been nearly 3 YEARS since my last active post on Reckless Indulgence and a lot has happened in my life during that time.

Some of it good (moved to a new city, got a great new job).

Some of it bad (that same “great new job” ended a few months ago because the “long-term” assignment I was on was suddenly terminated out of nowhere, PLUS I’ve been having some health issues which is making finding work outside of the house really… REALLY difficult – fun times =___=).

Some of it I just wished hadn’t happened in the first place. (Like honestly… I won’t even go into that sob story…)

But regardless of all that, I’m here and still standing – desperately ready to get back into blogging again! I even have an exciting new endeavor planned, but more will be revealed on that probably… next month? End of this month? Something like that… Not entirely sure… BUT SOON!

At any rate, I figured I’d just pop in for a few moments to let you all know I’M BACK and ready to fill your days with bookish content, favourite quotes, book reviews, funny anecdotes, and the occasional music recommendation/share. Stay tuned for a new and improved posting schedule and the-first-of-many-a-backlogged book review!

I’M BACK!! I’M BACK!! (Thank goodness!! @__@)

HELLO EVERYONE! I’m baaaaaaaaaaack~!

S’good to be back! What a crazy few weeks it’s been!

First off, I must apologize for being completely nonexistent here on Reckless Indulgence. I was locked out of my account for about a month and couldn’t find a way back in. I could look at the site, see all your lovely comments and likes and the rest, but could do nothing about it.

Thankfully, everything’s working now and I have full access to my site so we can get this year started, albeit a little late, but started nonetheless. 🙂

dividerYear of 2015 In Review:

…Some end of the year things…

So, let’s see.

  1. We had all the wonderful end of the year holidays and such. (Soon, there will be a few more (at least for me) and then — shockingly — we’ll be in February of 2016! Can you believe that???) Or at least, I should have, but didn’t really get the chance to enjoy it. The last two weeks of December were utter mayhem for me, and didn’t get any better as I continued into 2016. Note of point: I ended the year with a death (on Christmas Day no less 😦 ) and start the year with a funeral (thankfully not on my birthday, the 1st, but on the 3rd instead). Also, the company I work for merged with another company so they decided to screw around and misplace all my information — most importantly my pay info like DAYS before I was supposed to get paid. So yeah. And those were the LEAST hectic things that happened over that period of time. 8D;;;;
  2. Had our first two annual events here on Reckless Indulgence and I think they turned out very well! More information about that down below…
  3. Got a new job back in June — Better pay, though the hours are bleh. Still. Pay = good. Can’t ask for anything more than that, right? 😉
  4. Made some GREAT contacts over the year, especially with publishers, authors, and fellow bloggers. You guys make all of this worthwhile and loads of fun along the way.<3
  5. Reading Challenges. Wasn’t really keeping up with some of my reading challenges in the end months, but I think I still managed to finish most of them, which is INSANELY AWESOME, btw…

All in all, it seems to have been a REALLY good year! 🙂 I hope to do better this year, or at least keep everything going well from here on out. Hopefully the universe won’t try to hinder me (Although this year has not started off on the best note thus far. We’ll have to see… :/)

dividerPlans for the new 2016 Year

I don’t make resolutions, but here are some of the things I’d really like to see myself accomplish in this new year.

  1. Reviews. For all that is good and holy in this world, I need to get back into reviewing books. Even if I don’t get into the long, detailed reviews… I need to REVIEW THE BOOKS I READ.
  2. Read, read, always read. The past month was rough on the reading department. Nowhere near what I normally would accomplish, but RL was insanely rough.
  3. Write more. This one I never thought I would have to say, but truthfully, I haven’t really done as much writing as I used to and that SCARES THE LIVING SHIT OUTTA ME. I have so many ideas inside of me that just need to break loose… So many worlds and characters and stories and lives, loves, and woes that need telling… If anything gets in the way of that I will have to tell them to sod off before I break something.
  4. MORE. MUSIC. Not to say this will ever be a problem, but it might be some sort of cosmic sin if I don’t at least mention it.
  5. Blog consistently. Keep to at least 1-2 posts weekly. Hopefully more, but AT LEAST that. Also, try to add more to these areas:
    1. TIL (Today I Learned)
    2. Book Haul
    3. Book Reviews

That’s it for now!

Once again, it’s good to be back. 😉

Sorry for being so incredibly MIA guys…

NaNoWriMo-ing takes up a lot of my time and work has not been the easiest lately (getting close to the holidays so OF COURSE the world is ending and we have to save it before its too late :p).

I absolutely haven’t forgotten about any of you or the Secret Santa event. Ill have more details later this week so if you’re interested, try to keep in mind that you need a list of a few books that you want, and also be ready to receive someone else list in turn.

More to come:

  • Book reviews
  • Music will be back for our Mondays
  • Fun event stuff (Secret Santa and the like)
  • Pep Talk for those doing NaNoWriMo like me! 🙂

Hope everyone’s doing fine! (And that there aren’t too many typos in this post. Typing on a phone is crap man…)

Blog Updates & a little music to get your Monday going~ [Reckless Beat & SOTD] Lorde – Tennis Court

RECKLESS BEATS is a musical feature where I incorporate a little music into this bookish blog.

Hey y’all! So last week… Friday morning/Late Thursday night, I think it was?? I did a couple updates on the blog. Nothing too major. Just got rid of a few things, updated and cleaned up others. Got a whole brand new “About Me” page with all my pertinents and such on it. Plus the regular About page has been updated and cut down some, and all the Features are gathered in one place with explanations for your reading convenience. 🙂 I’ve also added my latest book reviews to the By Rating and By Title archives, so now they, too, are basically all up-to-date. (Thank the heavens!)

Be sure to check out the new pages and tell me whatcha think!

All that aside, figured I’d share my song of the day with you before this day’s up. (Really exhausted after the weekend I had @___@;; ) Honestly, I think it’s quite appropriate after coming back from a harrowing weekend of best friend bridal duties. Even though it was quite an unconventional gathering (supposed “gender restrictions” were not followed at this event), it was still less than ideal for me and my fellow mates. Far too much ideal chit-chat and marriage talk for my taste. Truthfully… I hate it all with the passion of thousand burning, blistering suns — but… as I’ve been sayin’ to everyone: “A best friend’s gotta do what a best friend’s gotta do, so suck it up and deal!

Lorde get me. You can tell it from her lyrics. She gets the idiocy of idle talk and the mundane nature of human beings. She also gets how little I fuckin’ care.

Here’s Tennis Court by Lorde! The very first song I ever heard by this disarmingly talented lady. ❤

Don’t you think that it’s boring how people talk
Making smart with their words again, well I’m bored
Because I’m doing this for the thrill of it, killin’ it
Never not chasing a million things I want
And I am only as young as the minute is full of it
Getting pumped up from the little bright things I bought
But I know they’ll never own me (Yeah)

Baby be the class clown
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We’re so happy, even when we’re smilin’ out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah)

Pretty soon I’ll be getting on my first plane
I’ll see the veins of my city like they do in space
But my head’s filling up with the wicked games, up in flames
How can I fuck with the fun again, when I’m known
And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them
Everything’s cool when we’re all in line, for the throne
But I know it’s not forever (Yeah)

Baby be the class clown
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We’re so happy, even when we’re smilin’ out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah)

It looked alright in the pictures (Yeah)

Getting caught soft with the triple is it
I fall apart, with all my heart
And you can watch from your window
And you can watch from your window

Baby be the class clown
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form showing people how little we care (Yeah)
We’re so happy, even when we’re smilin’ out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah)

And talk it up like yeah (Yeah)
And talk it up like yeah (Yeah)
Let’s go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah)
And talk it up like yeah (Yeah)
And talk it up like yeah (Yeah)
Let’s go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (Yeah)

Getting swamped with life

Not to say I didn’t know this was going to happen, but… it still sucks when it does. @___@

I have a bunch of drafts just sitting on my dash staring me in the face with those accusing eyes (Good gods, they have EYES?!?!) demanding I actually finish putting them together and posting them already. Some include reviews from last year that I finished writing but never finished formatting, or notifications I found here and there that I thought might be of interest to you all. Most of them are just the plethora of new book finds ranging from library finds to $1 finds to kindle free books and more.

And then there’s the WTRO² (Want To Read Or Own) and SIWTGI (Series I Want To Get Into) which are basically just my fancy ways of saying “More books to add to my TBR list that will NEVER END.”

Now I’ve gone ahead and added these Reading Challenges to the mix, and — let me tell you. Good gods, what have I done? XD

Let’s hope I can keep up with everything.

This is just a warning to you all that there might be days when absolutely NOTHING is happening.

Then they’ll be days when I’m posting on the hour. XD

You have been, thus, forewarned.

I’ll be starting with some WTRO² and SIWTGI posts of a couple NetGalley books that I’ve only recently discovered I really, really wanna read.

  1. Equinox by Christian Cantrell
  2. Whispers from Mirrowen series (Books 1-3) by Jeff Wheeler
  3. Hideous by Devon McCormack
  4. Captive Prince (Book One of the Captive Prince Trilogy) by C. S. Pacat (I’ve heard of this one before… just kept putting it on the backburned. “Oh I’ll get a copy later” and “Oh, it’ll be there, I’ll read it later”… Later, later, later…)
  5. Carry the Ocean by Heidi Cullinan
  6. The Fire Sermon (Book 3) by Francesca Haig
  7. The Ice Twins by S.K. Tremayne

Maybe you’ve heard of them? If not, then head on over to their listing for more info. 😉

Either way, I’m signing off. (Back to work for me~~)

Talk to you all again soon.
