The DARK CAROUSEL series is a heart-stopping saga, a mix of the chill of American Horror Story and the fantastical elements of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children.
A dark presence is collecting girls, deep in the forest. Two girls have vanished, and now a third. Cassie and her friends desperately search the forest for their friend, who went missing on a hike. When they find vintage dolls hanging from strings on branches, they should have turned back.
But they didn’t.
The dolls lead to a crumbling mansion. Beneath the mansion lies a macabre, life-sized dollhouse that is controlled by a terrifying being. In the dollhouse, you must dance until your feet bleed, sit on the toy shelf if you’re bad, and if you’ve been very bad, you are sent to the toy box – a pitch-dark cavern that contains beings beyond nightmares.
And now there is no escape.

‘A loud bang was heard from above, scaring the boys. They shined their lights up the stairwell. The sounds of chains rattling on the floor stirred the dust above. Something or someone was up there. Doug, hiding his fear, took two more steps up. Brandon and Kyle looked at him, their feet locked in place. They had no intention of going any further.’

If you like short, disturbing stories similar to the Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt, then you’ll love this series.
Welcome to the Conguise’s Laboratory Level Five….
In a world filled with human-animal hybrids, Guards are bred to serve the Almightys until they’re no longer wanted.
Mutter waits for his execution. It’s inevitable. He was a fighter and he lost. No one wants an ex-fighter. He’s too big, mean and ugly. Death will be the only way he gets out of this cell, but then the unthinkable happens. An Almighty visits in the dead of night and offers him a chance to leave. A chance to live.
All he has to do is obey and Guards were bred to obey.
When Mutter is taken to his new home, something isn’t right. There’s food and a bed but there are sounds and smells from the other cages. Things that move like nothing he’s ever encountered.
For the first time in his life, he’s afraid. Afraid of the creatures that lurk nearby. Afraid of the shots his new master is giving him.
He knows he’s supposed to obey, to always follow their rules but if he doesn’t escape, he’ll become food for one of those things in the other cages. Or worse… turn into one of them.
“A fascinating glimpse into the world of the Lake of Sins.” J. Urbanczyk
Interview with the Author
Q. – So, why should someone read the Conguise Chronicles series?
Well, because it’s great (smiles). No, seriously. If you’re looking for your typical horror novel with classic vampires, witches, demons or werewolves then you should look somewhere else. This story turns your standard supernatural thrillers upside down. You’ll root for the monster, not the humans.
The characters in the series are human-animal hybrids. They’ve been captured and are being genetically modified by a genius who hasn’t quite figured out how to control his experiments or his monsters.
Conguise Chronicles takes place in the world of the Lake of Sins—a world which is segregated by class and the descendants of humans rule supreme. Each story in this series explores the life of one genetic mutation who you meet in the Lake of Sins series.
The books are fast paced with adventure, danger and madness around every corner. I guarantee by the end, you’ll be rooting for the monster and you’ll never read another horror story without thinking about things from the creature’s perspective.
All-in-all, it’s a unique and exciting read and you should give it a try. I think you’ll love it.
Q. – Who should read the Conguise Chronicles series?
The audience for this series is broad. I have fans (male and female) aged ten through eighty. Anyone who likes gory thrillers that are dark, a little disturbing and packed with action will enjoy these books. If you like Relic, Frankenstein and The Island of Dr. Moreau, then you’ll enjoy these tales.
However, a word of caution is in order. These books are not for the squeamish. Some scenes are bloody and violent, but the interactions between the characters are funny, poignant and loving. Still, I wouldn’t recommend these books to anyone under thirteen without the parents reading the books first.
If you enjoy this book, you should check out the parent series (Lake of Sins). The first book is free.
The Lake of Sins Series should be read in the following order:
Lake of Sins: Escape (book 1) (free for a limited time)
Lake of Sins: Secrets In Blood (book 2)
Lake of Sins: Hangman’s Army (book 3)
Lake of Sins: Betrayed (book 4)
Lake of Sins: Whispers from the PastI don’t have the titles for the others in the series yet.

(Goodreads Description)
My Sister, the Serial Killer is a blackly comic novel about how blood is thicker – and more difficult to get out of the carpet – than water…
When Korede’s dinner is interrupted one night by a distress call from her sister, Ayoola, she knows what’s expected of her: bleach, rubber gloves, nerves of steel and a strong stomach. This’ll be the third boyfriend Ayoola’s dispatched in, quote, self-defense and the third mess that her lethal little sibling has left Korede to clear away. She should probably go to the police for the good of the menfolk of Nigeria, but she loves her sister and, as they say, family always comes first. Until, that is, Ayoola starts dating the doctor where Korede works as a nurse. Korede’s long been in love with him, and isn’t prepared to see him wind up with a knife in his back: but to save one would mean sacrificing the other…
LET ME START BY SAYING: THIS IS NOT A THRILLER, NOR A MYSTERY, NOR A COMEDY, NOR A HORROR, NOR EVEN ALL THAT “DISTURBING” (at least not in the context of the bloody title reading “My sister, the SERIAL KILLER“). At most, I’d call this simple contemporary fiction showcasing mildly disturbing content.
That being said, I still ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK, but I DO believe it has been mislabeled and falsely advertised, which is why it’s getting some low star or “bad” reviews. People are going into this book looking for a thriller or murder mystery and getting… a confession? A “this is what happened – take it or leave it” sort of book, and it’s not what they expected??? If they could separate themselves from their initial disappointment (maybe even put the book down, walk away, and come back when they’re in the mood to read a different kind of book and not a nail-biting thriller-mystery) they’d realize the the book itself is GREAT. The hints of humor amidst a darkly cast scenario of two sisters struggling to keep it together and take control of their lives in world where women can be bought and sold into marriage no different than selling cattle to the highest bidder, is wonderful.
But is it thriller or nail-biting or have-you-at-the-edge-of-your-seat? Absolutely not.
This book reads almost like a “fictional” memoir than anything else. (Which is, I think, what it should have ACTUALLY been marketed as, jus’ sayin’…)
It’s a quick-paced, easy read that I finished in a single midday sitting. My three favourite aspects of this novel were (1) the message of strong family ties between the sisters, (2) Korode (the older sister)’s dry, almost sarcastic humor, and (3) the wholly entertaining interactions between the sisters: their bickering, their compromising, and their love. The characters are wonderfully developed, and the plot — though relatively predictable — was clear, well-thought, and still had a few surprises throughout, with insightful and illuminating flashbacks to the sisters’ childhood that 100% shaped them into the… *ehem*… killer women they are today.
I absolutely LOVE books that showcase strong bonds between siblings, and this book definitely fits the bill. It goes up there as a newly minted-five star favourite and I would definitely recommend it if you’re looking for a quick read novella or cozy thrillers/fictional memoirs/literary fiction with strong themes in: family, women supporting women, and African culture.
Nothing particularly out of the ordinary.
There’s blood, killing, some mildly sociopathic behavior, and more killing (and cleaning up the murder scene), but I mean… with a title like that, what else did you expect?? xD
Three, this time!
Thaaat’s right, folks! This was the book I decided to read in honor of Hannigram Day 2019 xD It actually came across much milder than I thought, but it was still a good choice.
Definitely, definitely, definitely!
Just heed my warning and don’t be misled by all the crap advertising.
I REPEAT:
THIS IS NOT A THRILLER, NOR A MYSTERY, NOR A COMEDY, NOR A HORROR, NOR EVEN ALL THAT “DISTURBING”. At most, I’d call this simple literary fiction showcasing mildly disturbing content.

Kylie Moore has a secret, one she and her adoptive father have carefully guarded for over a decade since the night her parents disappeared. However, when she is randomly attacked one night in her apartment complex’s parking lot, that one violent act sets in motion events that reveal not only her long-dormant shifter heritage in the worst possible way, but could also railroad her efforts of finding out what really happened to her parents.
Suddenly finding herself the center of attention among Riverford’s shifter clans, Kylie’s only hope of navigating such a dangerous minefield of politics and perpetual battles over territory is Hunter, a too-sexy-for-her-peace-of-mind jaguar shifter that might be her key to gaining insider access to the hidden and secretive shifter society.
Now Kylie must decide whether to integrate more deeply into Hunter’s jaguar clan in order to take advantage of this rare opportunity or to run while her secret still remains uncovered. To stay would mean deliberately putting herself in more danger than Kylie may be prepared to handle, especially when Hunter, the person she must rely on, may be hiding something as well.

Asher Williams is obsessed with love.
It’s probably one of the reasons he makes such a fantastic matchmaker, love guru, and romance expert. And now that he’s in college, it’s finally his turn to shine.
Asher’s relationship advice column in the school newspaper is his strongest matchmaking instrument, especially when it comes to helping hopeless romantics find their soulmates.
But like every heroic quest, there are a few bumps in the road and dragons to slay.
There’s a damsel in distress Asher’s best friend thinks is a psychopath, a handsome prince Asher can’t stop drooling over, and a huge, mysterious roommate Asher can’t help but pester.
It doesn’t matter though. Nothing will stop Asher when it comes to helping people find their true love.
He’s absolutely positive everything will work out in the end.
Because love is always like a fairy tale…right?

The main romance arc spans across all three novellas. When Red Cried Wolf contains little romance but sets up for the rest of the series.

When Red Cried Wolf is a slow-burn romance with over-the-top characters, fairy tale references, ridiculous texts, and eventually, a happy ever after.
Asher Williams is obsessed with love.
His column is thriving, fellow students trust him with their relationship woes, and he’s on his A-game when it comes to matchmaking. At least, matchmaking other than his own.
After a heartfelt letter written to his column, Asher is set on aiding the two love-struck heroes who desperately need his help.
But like every heroic quest, there are a few bumps in the road and dragons to slay.
Randy and Red can’t stop passing looks whenever Asher voices his plans;, the handsome Christopher might not be quite what Asher expected, and his dark, mysterious roommate, Morgan, might have a surprise or two up his sleeve.
It doesn’t matter though. Nothing will stop Asher when it comes to helping people find their true love.

Golden Boy and the Two Bears is a slow-burn romance with over-the-top characters, fairy tale references, ridiculous texts, and eventually, a happy ever after.
Asher Williams is obsessed with love.
Or at least he was, until it all came crashing down.
He made a mistake. And even Asher himself, arranger of marriages and aider of lovesick hearts, doesn’t know how to fix it.
And like every heroic quest, there are a few bumps in the road and dragons to slay.
His inability to focus on love has turned his column into a disaster, his best friends are acting weirder than usual, Christopher turns out to be a man of many surprises, and Morgan, well…
Maybe this time it does matter. Because when Asher’s heart finally realizes what he’s been looking for all along, it may be too late.
And too broken.
But there might just be a shred of hope somewhere deep down in his heart. Maybe Asher can fix everything and have his prince charming.
Because love is always like a fairy tale…right?
I won’t lie… it’s the GORGE covers that initially drew me in. Definitely think whoever designed these KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING. Wow, wow, wow! Then I read the descriptions and I’m 100% down for WHATEVER they are doing.
“The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don’t always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don’t always spoil the good things and make them unimportant.”
